New Cal King - Male or Female?
So this is mt first Kingsnake, really my first colubrid in general. I've always had pythons and boas.I tried the popping method which always works well from me, but it's tail is just so stiff i'd be afraid of hurting it. I tried to snag some photos, hard to do so when it's squiggling around. But it's around 4 foot long.

You'll need to have it probed. Popping doesn't generally work on adults as they have too much muscle control.

Thank you for the response. I'll take it to my local exotic vet to be probed. I know there's a difference with tail girth and length but it's hard with just one cal King.

Based on corn snakes, my guess (just a guess!) is that you have got a male. Not sure if the corn snake anterior of the vent tail taper even applies to kings, however, but that might give you something specific to look up.

    Lovely looking King snake !

Does he turn pyscho at feeding time ?

I have a super friendly black and white banded Cali king similar in looks to yours but only half it's size .

Nice and calm until I drop a mouse into his viv then he goes crazy - lunging and biting air all around :)
