    Humidity Help!
So I've followed all the advice I've gotten (except I still haven't gotten thermostats for the UTH and for the ceramic bulb if I choose to use that) and I can't get the readings to stay. I have a 40 gallon tank (which I know isn't recommended, but I wanted it because she's just a pet and I'm probably never breeding) with a hide on each side that she switches between. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/02...b2f2374452.jpg I refill the bowl with lukewarm water daily. I've started putting damp moss into the hides instead of paper towels so I'm not sure how the humidity is in them. I have a 125 watt black night view bulb in right now and a room heater set to 70 (which keeps the warm side 86°-92° and the cool side 75°-84° depending on the house temp). The warm temp only gets about 86° after I spray because the moisture cools it. I have 3/4 of the lid covered in foil. I'm using a sphagnum and fir substrate. I'm reading with an AccuRite thermo/hygrometer. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/02...02954b43da.jpg Every time I spray, the reader goes to about 65% (sometimes higher if I spray it directly on accident) however it still gets down to about 35% within 20-30 minutes. It's at 43% right now and I just sprayed 10 minutes ago. The foil is doing nothing to help.

Just keep damp spaghnum moss in the hides and don't worry about the humidity of the rest of the tank. The humidity in the hide will be good and snakes spend the majority of their time in the hide.

Wet the moss, let it dry out, and then remoisten. Once he shows signs of being in shed, keep the moss damp all the time.

Alright. As long as you don't think she'll get a RI from the rest being low...

She wont. She'll be healthy. And once the weather warms up your overall humidity will (should) increase.

I live in pretty much a desert but damp moss around the tank is helping as well. Also keeping get water full.

Cover that screen top with plexiglass. Your humidity problem will go away.

You can also buy a fogger or a mister.

It's actually fairly cheap and is available at your local hardware store. I used to have plexiglass covered top for my glass terrarium before I upgreded to PVC terrariums. The plexiglass works great.
