Incubation temps

hey everyone,

quick question.

I read about everywhere that they incubate at 89 F, in my incubator it is between 88 and 88.6 is that a problem? (got no eggs yet, just got my incubator finished 2 days ago and now I am testing it.)

Yep, 88 is good and actually a safer temp than 89 as it allows some wiggle room incase temps increase for some reason. When in doubt, colder temps are better than hot. A colder temperature will mean it'll probably take a little bit longer for them to hatch (probably a couple days difference). Also, is your probe just in the incubator, or in the actual egg box? If it's not in the egg box, the egg box will be a different temperature than the rest of the incubator. From what I've seen, the probe sitting outside of the egg box results in a lower temp egg box which results in clutches taking longer to hatch (up to 70+ days depending on the temp).

No the probe is inside the egg box and to double check it I also used my temp gun and they are pretty much the same only 2 tenth of a degree (if I am saying that right, one was 88.4 the other was 88.6)

We double check ours with the temp gun too :laughing:. Looking at a poll posted on this site, it looks like most people incubate at 88.5-88.9 Some people report having bigger, healthier babies when incubating at cooler temps, but I haven't looked too much into it.

You can incubate between 86 to 90 (and I say 90 and not higher so you have a little room in case something happen).
