Libial pit question

Should I be concerned if my ball pythons libial pits have a reddish colour to them? His colouring is darkening so we think he will be going into shead shortly. Maybe that could be why the red colouring looks more prominent? Or could this be the beginning stages of a health issue? Any thoughts or advice would be gravely appreciated

Any chance you have a picture of it?

Could be rubbing if hes going into shed

Getting the pic was no problem, however attaching it to this thread is not as easy as I thought lol

The red coloured my is not on the outside of his scales, it's on the inside of the pits. I just don't remember it looking so prominent before

If your on a computer there is a thread here somewhere for posting pics. Otherwise using Tapatalk in the phone is way easier.

Is it just one discolored pit or all of them?

It's all of them. Like a red shadow throughout the inside of the pit holes.

And it's definitely different color than normal? It could be from going into shed, if it is in fact starting a shed cycle. Anything else going on with it? Any breathing problems or noises, mucus and whatnot?

Nothing else at this point. That being said, I've never seen/owned a snake with any health issues so I'm not entirely sure what to look for. I've been trying to watch out for when he opens his moth, (to look for signs of mucus) but that's not a regular occurrence. No breathing issues that I can hear.

His eyes are getting the blue hazy so I'm almost positive he's going to be shedding soon. It's been a while since his last so he's due.

Oh if he's in blue then he's shedding and that's probably the pit discoloration. Good on you for noticing that though! Makes me want to check my snakes pi 's out the next time they are in shed. If it still seems to be off even post shed, just monitor your snake, make sure the husbandry is correct and see if anything changes.
