Need some help here???

I just got my first BP on sunday he the breeder at the show said he was eating live mice already but when I look at him or just his head it seems like a regular size mouse wouldnt fit in his mouth (but I could be wrong) I dont know his exact age but He's about 2ft and when I held him at the show he felt like he was about a one pound in weight and the rest of his body looks like it could hold a mouse in there. I'm not about to feed him now but when I do should I go for a regular sized mouse or maybe something along the lines of a Hopper mouse?

Most ball pythons can take adult mice from birth ... as long as you don't get a huge mama jama retired breeder, you'll be fine.

Thanx.....Yeah I caught him yawning a few times and the doubt kinda went away but I just wanted to make sure.

The size of the mouth really has nothing to do with it ( that is of course if your snake has a regular sized head.....its not like a baby corn snakes head is on an adult blood python) its the thickest part of the body that matters. Just feed him somthing that size or slightly bigger.

You'll really be amazed what they can fit in their little mouths. I was more impressed that something as large as a rat could fit down the throat, it seemed SOOOO tiny compared to the prey. They can stretch something fierce when they want to though, so don't worry. Unless you're gonna try a huge rat, your little one will be able to take it no problem. Doesn't look very comfy sometimes, but they manage. :)

like BrandonO said its the girth of the snake that matters and not his head. You can start him out on small rats pretty soon if he is already 2 ft long. It is really cool watchin them eat rats...
