Loss of power in the winter months
What do you guys and girls do with your snakes if you lost power. I myself have lost power for a full week during hurricane Sandy and it got cold. But that was the extreme here in NJ. I have lost power for 2 hours or so and I didn't feel like starting up the generator. However, my BP was probably getting cold.
I was in bed a few weeks ago whn we lost power during a storm, my mind was starting to think about that. How long can they go with their normal temps below normal ? Also...what could be done in case you did have to get them some heat. My one thought was the hand warmer packets but the power came back on after that thought. But I've been thinking about this now.

I have a buddy heater http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Heater-F232...s=buddy+heater for the snake room allowing me to keep the snake room between 75 and 80. I use it with a big propane tank not the small one, it burns clean and can be used indoor.

And I also have a generator for the incubator and freezer containing F/T, it also allow us to maintain all the necessary things running (fridge. lights etc).

I have that same heater....can that truly run without a window cracked ? Cool....I do have options. I have a big generator also but if the power just goes out for a few hours....will the snakes be ok. When do I need to go fire up the generator ? The house will usually stay warm enough for me for 2 hours....but the snake temps drop.

Your "oh crud the power is out" plan will vary based on how many snakes you have. If you have one snake, put it in a bag and put it down your shirt if the house gets too cold.

If you have an incubator and a room full of racks and stacks, you really need a generator and/or non-electric heat sources that are safe for indoor use; carbon monoxide is a killer.
