Tail Injury?

Hello. So my Kayly just went through a really poor shed. After said shed, they're were two pieces that hadn't come off, one on the back and one on the tip of the tail. The one on the back came off on its own after the first day or so but the tail one stuck. I tried soaking and setting if we could get it off but that didn't work either so I figured I'd give her another day or two. I decided that I would check on her and see how it was but when I picked her up, I found this. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01...ecaa17b502.jpg The old skin is fine but it looks like it might be missing a scale or something. It's red like it might be bleeding a bit too. Is this an injury that needs treatment or will it heal on its own?

That should heal fine but keep an eye on it for the next shed or two - and if you are using a particulate substrate and it starts sticking to it then switch to something like paper towels or newspaper until it clears.

You want to keep it clean it will heal own it's own.

What you do want in the future is to make sure that humidity is optimum to facilitate proper shed.

If the shed is incomplete especially at the tail you want to make sure this is addressed to prevent even worse injury that could lead to necrosis of a larger portion of the tail and ultimately amputation.

Ekans had a similar thing happen a couple months ago. I was out of town for several days and my snake-phobic husband let the humidity get really low for a couple days... Led to a bad shed right before a got home. Once I realized the tip of her tail had retained shed it was too late and the very very tip of her tail more or less came off with the shed once I soaked it off... It was bright red and bled at first.

I straight up cried... I felt like the worst snake momma in the whole world! I kept it clean and dry, and changed substrate to paper towels until it healed. Now less than 2 months later you want even tell it happened. Here is her tail today.

So keep it clean and dry and just keep an eye on it. It will be ok :)
