    Appropriate food
    Hey everyone:)
I've read a lot that you're supposed to compare the weight of the prey with the weight of your BP to choose which size is appropriate, but how do I know what weight it should have? Sorry if I repeat a thread but I somehow don't find anything about it.

My boy is 3-4 months old and weighs about 120gr. When I got him about a month ago the breeder told me that they fed him a hopper a week. Meanwhile, I give him 2 hoppers every 5-7 days.
What prey should I offer him according to his age and weight?

At this size it can take an adult mice or a rat pup.

The easiest way to know is to eye-ball it, the prey should be equal the girth size (widest part of your BP's body), this is for hatchling and sub adults, as your will grow and become an adult it will not require anything larger than a small rat for a male (55/75 grams) and medium rat for a female (80/120 grams)

My BP is about that same size, maybe a tad larger. I have been feeding her Rat fuzzies. They have been between 15-24g and she seems to do fine with them. She gets one every 6 days and has steadily been putting on a little weight.

If you want to use the weight method, the "standard" is to feed prey that is between 15%-20% of your bp's total weight.

    Okay thanks a lot :)

It's just that discussions everywhere like "eye-balling" was way to imprecise and that this weight method was unnecessary... but according to you I guess both is fine :)

I think both methods are widely used. It's just whatever works best for YOU. Like Deborah said, the easiest way is to eye-ball it. I can't disagree with her, but she has a LOT more experience than I do. I "think" I could eye-ball it and be okay, I'm still new and like to weigh as a way of double-checking myself. The past few weeks though, I've done more eye-balling and less weighing. It's just what you feel comfortable with.

It's a matter of convenience when you have a lot of animals the last thing you want to do is weigh in each and every prey it would be time consumming.
