    Aggressive BP died
Last week I came to you guys about a black pewter I had that was becoming extremely aggressive. Some of you suggested that he was being under fed. The suggestion was to feed him a larger item so I did. I gave him a 61g ASF. I decided to feed him again on Monday. I usually feed all my snakes under 500g every 5 days. So it was feeding day for my smaller guys as well so I decided to feed him again. I gave him a 57g ASF and he ate well, of course after he attempt to tag me first... he missed. From that point my husband and I decided that we would continue to feed him every 5 days, just to see if it would make any difference. Today, as I fed all my other snakes, I went to go open his cage to check on him and he was on his back. There was no blood, he looked as healthy as ever. His eyes were blue, not clouded as if he was starting to shed, but more like a sapphire blue. He looked like one of those fake rubber snakes. It really sucks.

I have a feeling his aggression may have something to do with whatever illness he had. One of the vet clinics here cremate and disposes of dead bodies so he is in the freezer right now waiting for me to bring him down there later this afternoon.

If you can afford it i would get a necropsy so you know the cause of death and can rule out an infection that could possibly be moving threw your collection

    sorry about your snake. :(

and if u decide to get a necropsy, don't freeze the snake. just keep it cool until u get to the vet this afternoon.

No necropsy. I asked for one. $340 is just something I cannot afford. They send away the body so it could be a month before I hear anything about it. I do have a fund for vet costs if any of my other snakes do get sick so if it is contagious, knowing the problem in a month wont help my current snakes. So I would rather keep my vet fund just in case. Plus the $79 to dispose of the body. It is illegal to bury your dead pets here plus the ground is frozen.

    So sorry for your loss.

Like you said, maybe there was something underlying there that was affecting this snake... who knows. It sounds like you did what you could though, and it wasn't being neglected by you. It's hard with animals like this because they don't often show signs of anything until it has affected them to an extreme point.

I'm very sorry for your loss. The fact that he was still aggressively eating would not have lead me to think he was near death, but reptiles will hide their illness to the bitter end if they can. I agree that a necropsy that takes a month is basically worthless.

Sorry for your loss. Maybe the pewter guy was in pain and that was the reason for his aggressiveness. Sad really.
