Is this even possible?

So I was scrolling through my news app on my phone when I came across an article that said a giant snake is missing in Australia. So I clicked on and I saw this pic.

It said it was about 5 meters (16 1/2 feet) and it looks as thick if not thicker than a burm. Is it possible that carpet pythons can get that big or is it just a fake?

Whoever made that pick is ok at photoshop.

LOL... when you zoom in on a gaming comp with good graphics... you can see the white around the edges in places.

Though I'm sure Australia is used to large animals roaming around, so there's that.

Hard to really say how big that would be, whether real or not, without something to use for size perspective.

This pic was on my Aussie forum a while back. We weren't to sure if it was photoshopped, but coastal carpets can get to around 4m, sometimes larger, and get big enough to take on wallabies and small kangaroos.

We have large snakes here anyway. Scrub pythons (Amethystine Sp) and Olive pythons (Liasis Sp), can get between six and eight meters, and a photo (legit) went around a while back of an olive constricting than eating a maybe 4 meter crocodile!

LOL I knew it.... Australian animals are just bigger and badder than anywhere else.

Exactly!

And actually that does not look all that huge. Just about every snake picture on the internet appears larger than what it is.

A Brisbane, locality coastal can easily hit 8 - 10 feet.

Herpo is spot on, and record setting coastals have been recorded at the 14 foot mark. Rare, but they exist.

Good point. Almost every snake seems bigger in pictures.
Also I believe I saw that pic of the olive python constricting a croc. It was oddly incredible.
