What's the safest way to attach the thermo/hygrometer to my glass tank?
    Hey everyone!

So I got a new digital thermometer and hygrometer that stick onto the glass in the tank. Of course the next day, the thermometer fell off. I don't want to use tape because I've heard of disasters when snakes pull it or come into contact with it, so how else do you recommend I attach them to the tank? I want to keep them lower to the floor near her hide, and I need to be able to remove them to replace the batteries when necessary. So the adhesive would need to be strong in case she rests on them, but not permanent (like epoxy). Ideas?

Can use a small velcro square... You can find strips that self adhere at craft stores

Personally, I just set mine on the ground in the enclosure. My snake never messed with it really. I had it hung on the side with a suction cup for a while, and Mycroft actually pulled it down lol.
As long as it's not tape, you should be fine tho :gj:

I have used good quality Velcro for years now. With Velcro if the snake climbs over the unit it will simply come off the wall and nothing sticky, like tape, will be exposed to the snake.

Make sure you use good Velcro and cut it clean and crisp so it does not have any edges or corners that are not stuck to the wall and the unit.

Velcro also makes it easy to take the unit out for cleaning. It has worked well for me.

That is such an awesome name! And a great idea; my only problem with that is they take them into their hides and then I can't monitor them. Haha...

Yeah, the only problem I've had with the velcro is the tape that adheres that to the glass comes loose, maybe due to humidity?? I'll try a hot glue gun.

I use the Acurite units and I just place em on the floor in a corner. Usually remain intact for the most part except my boas seem to like to try and lay a turd right on the unit and my BP pretty well mows it down nightly and either lays on top of it and buries it under the aspen....so I guess actually they don't remain intact but they are pretty durable. The oldest one so far has lasted almost 2 years now if I remember correctly.

That's why I said a good quality velcro. I've never had an issue. I have moved or removed the velcro for one reason or another and have had to pry it off. I feel confident that a good quality velcro is a much better choice than hot glue.

I use this method in both a GTP and BRB cage with no issues. Both have pulled the unit off the wall several times and neither strip of velcro shows any sign of failing. Both of those have much more humidity than a ball.

OK, I'll try that instead. I'll go to Lowe's. I'm not opposed to the snakeys sitting or pooping on he gauges, I just want to be able to check them a few times a day. Thanks for the advise!
