    garter snake breeding question.
    What's the average amount of babies a female will give birth to? I had a wild caught coast garter that I found in Humboldt county that turned out be pregnant and she gave birth to five babies but I've heard they can have alot more than that.

    Depends on size of female, age, species, etc. The average is probably in the ~20 range with extreme cases being anywhere from just a few to nearly 100 babies born in a single litter.

    There is a known average just as John says. And all those factors play into the number of offspring a single female will give birth to at a given time. Different species and sub species of garter will also have varying numbers of young. Such as a fully grown adult female Plains garter will give birth to more babies than a similarly adult female pastel checkered garter.
