Moving Enclosures / Need Advice on Some Things

Hi - my female leapord ball (a little over 1yr) last weighed in at 690g a week ago and is right around 2f long maybe an inch over. We moved her from a 20gal to a 40gal breeder.
It's been a few days. She was moved just after her shed cycle ended. She took a meal last night - no issues. But I feel like it's too big for her. She seems to wander quite a bit for a ball who barely used to move around before and would spend days in her hide. It seems a little.....odd. I'm slightly paranoid. Lol.
However, for the last few weeks in the 20gal she did become more active and my good friend and breeder suggested I should move her. She seemed a little cramped.
So should I keep seeing how it goes (on day 3 here) or should I start investing in a 30 gal?

Also - I am getting a sub-adult spider male here in a couple of weeks. Around 3-4 years. He's bigger. Probably around 900-950g. What recommended size gallon should I use? Another 40gal?

We may move to tubs eventually one day - but I have finally gotten the logistics down using terrariums, and still have a lot of concerns on how to hear plastic tubs and the possible toxins heating plastic produces.

She probably needs some more time to acclimate to her new environment. Treat this move as the first day that you got her, and how any BP owner would. Leave her alone for a week, if she hasn't settled down by then, consider moving her back down. However, all of these different moves might be stressful for her.

A 40 gal tank should be a good size for most BPs all the way to adulthood. My BP was raised in a 40 and remains there today. She is usually still but every once and awhile I can tell she was out exploring by how her plants are moved. I don't think you have much to worry about as long as the husbandry is on point.

You could always "clutter" the new tank a litttle more. I'd say it's likely she is still just feeling it out... finding where the hot spots are, the new smells, the new lay of the land, etc...

I've been thinking about tubs as well, and I don't think there are really that many concerns with fumes/toxins from the plastic being heated. I don't think it's heated enough to be of any concern. I know a lot of people have been using them for a very long time with their BP's and the snakes seem to be thriving in them.

This really goes for any reptile, but new cage=new acclimation period. I use racks, and whenever I move an animal up to the next size larger tub, I expect a period of adjustment. Some times they eat a couple days later and are fine, sometimes it takes a coup!e weeks. Even had one that went off food 4 months, but she got over it. Like someone else said, double check the parameters, and be patient.

Thanks guys - she seems to be adjusting well. I am allowing her a few weeks because I am a horrible person and have decided to move to tubs. My male is going directly into one. My question for him is - as my question for her will be 32qts or 41qts? I am building my tubs based off of a system listed here that was genius.

I get this often. Lol. And I really look nothing like her!! It's weird. Lol, I guess it's just a jaw thing. Thank you!

32 is good for a male, 41 for a female. If it was me I would just go with 41qt and the male will just have more room, at their size they will both be fine in a 41qt.

I hear the tall tubs are insufficient. Do you think this as well?

BP are not the kind of snake that will thrive in heights, having a tall tub will do nothing for it, but as long as the floor space is enough for the snake, adding height will not change anything for it.
