You can't imagine how happy I was to see my new BP eat in his new home for the first time last night!

I tried 3 days ago by moving him into a ventilated rubbermade and using BBQ tongs, but he was much more interested in exploring the rubbermade and he thought the Tongs were just the coolest thing ever.

Wound up feeding him about 2-hours after lights-out in the warm side of his enclosure using a set of hemostats. He took about a 3 second look at the pinky and nailed it. He gave it a squeeze, then gulped him down, realigned his jaw and then went back into his hide.

For any total newbies out there another source of information (not nearly as detailed as here!), is the ball_python group on yahoo.

Congrats on the feeding. :) Pinkies are a bit small for a good meal, though, so you may want to see if you can find some small adult mice to feed your new bp (assuming he's a baby, otherwise full-size adult mice are a good starting point).

Glad to hear he ate! As Marla suggested I would step up the prey size. My little guy was eating rat pups from the time he was hatched (at least thats what the breeder said) He has been eating rat pups since I got him, and as a matter of fact he just ate about 15 minutes ago!!

I totally agree with Marla and lucky (unless you are talking about pinky rats) ... Pinky mice are way too small for a hatchling ball python. I start my babies on either rat pups or hopper mice. The hopper eaters are quickly moved to either rat pups or small adult mice.
