Google: Brian Gundy (IIRC, that's his name, For GoodnessSnakes is his business). He has a video about taming a difficult pet Argentine black and white tegu. I don't know how similar the two are, but that might help some.

    Good luck.

Time, patience, and food are usually the best tools for taming any lizard. And you'll need a lot more of the first two. It's a process that will take weeks, likely months, or maybe even years or never. Once the animal has acclimated and is comfortable eating in front of you, you could start offering treats with tongs. If it won't approach the tongs, set the treat in the food dish and back off. Eventually it'll get the idea, and will be more and more willing to approach. Then start working it closer to the cage door, then up onto your hand/arm. Then you can build on that from there.

The columbians are typically much tougher to tame down than argentines. Might have something to do with the fact that every single animal is a WC or farmed import. Patience and understanding are your two best friends.

I've never met a tame gold tegu. I'm not saying they don't exist, but I've never seen one. The argentines are generally much easier to tame. Good luck and keep everyone posted on your progress.

John and Darkbird's advice is spot on....it is also worth noting that "tame" is relative....tame could be not wanting to take your hand off Everytime you go near the cage or it could mean sitting in your lap. Go into it with the mindset that after all your work it may learn to just tolerate you....UT may never be puppy dog tame, patience is key.
