New to the forum

Hi! So I am very new to the forum, and I am looking into getting a ball python! I've done a lot of research, but I still have a few questions.

Tank: Tanks or tubs ? ( 20 gal long baby, 40 gal breeder adult)

Heating: I've read many care guides, some say heat mat, some say heat lamp. But from people with ball pythons, which are better for them ?

I want to get a baby bp from a reptile expo ( the closest one is in January), so is there any bp starter kits out there that are actually good?

Pit pretty much nailed it. It's all going to depend on how many snakes you may ultimately end up with. If you're sure it's going to be one then a tank is the nicer looking option. If it's more, then nothing beats tubs. IIRC Petco usually does a "dollar a gallon" tank sale around this time of the year so you could literally pick up a 40 gallon for only $40.

I decided on tubs a long time ago because of the ease of cleaning and it was and is the easiest way for me to maintain proper humidity. When I got my first BP I was sold an expensive "kit" from a pet store that was completely useless for my BP. Looking back now that kit was useless for any reptile, it came with "reptile sand" for bedding. After that mess I learned that simple is the best way to go and I found it much easier to control heating from underneath than with any light setup. Basis space I would suggest a tank if you only plan to keep one BP and make a nice display, tubs for a collection.
