Breeding after recovering from eye injury?
I decided to try my hand at breeding BP this year but none of my snakes were big enough to breed except my male mojave so my friend found someone selling an 1800g female cinnamon mojave but the only time she was available to meet up was while i was at work so i gave him the money to get her a f when i went to pick her up from him i found out that she had recently been attacked by a rat and it chewed on her eye pretty good and she had a layer of dead skin over her eye when i first got her. I kept her for a while and when she shed that layer of dead skin came off like i expected it would but im pretty sure she is now blind in that eye. I have had her fkr about 2 months now and i havent got her to eat anything since ive had her. She seems alot less stressed out than when i first got her but shes still refusing to eat so i figure since she hasnt ate for a few months she probably wont be breeding this year. Now if i would have known that she had the injury i probably would have passed on her and tried to find a different snake but by the time i found out it was already a done deal and she was mine. So im wondering, if they get attacked by a rat and refuse food for a while she should eventually get back to feeding normally right? One of my other friends has a normal that got attacked by a rat and he said it hasnt ate since and hes getting worried it will never eat on its own again cuz it seems scared of the rats now. And if she does go back on food eventually is she still ok to breed or will she possibly refuse to breed for the rest of her life? Im starting to think this was a bad investment and that i may never get eggs out of her but maybe im wrong. Supposedly shes a "proven breeder" but considering that she didnt tell the whole truth about the snakes health and didnt tell us it had injuries untill he was actually there to pick up the snake i dont know if i even believe her word that shes a "proven breeder"

And like i said im not happy about the way the deal went down so please dont bash me with stuff like "you should be more careful about your purchases" and "only buy from well reputable breeders" etc cuz whats done is done and im not too happy about it so i guess its just a lesson learned and will be much more careful about my future purchases

Are you trying to feed f/t or live? She could be afraid of the rats now, perhaps try a smaller prey item so it will be less intimidating. Also if you're feeding live, try switching to f/t.

Ive tried f/t small rats, f/t adult mice, live small rats, and live adult mice. She wont take any and 1800g an adult mouse is a really small meal for her

Since you've only had her two months and she came from a sketchy seller, breeding her should be the last thing on your mind right now. I would concentrate on ensuring that she's healthy and feeding, and reserve her for next season.

Her eye injury shouldn't affect her breeding as long as you're certain that it was due to something like a rat bite rather than a birth defect.

It is pretty common for adult female to go off feed when changing environment so the injury might not have anything to do with it. 50% of the female that I have received as adult (loan or purchased) ceased to eat upon arrival. only to resume 3 to 9 months later which obviously means breeding plans had to be delayed.

At her size it's gonna be about proper husbandry, and patience, I would also recommend not to feed anything bigger than a small rat when offered.

As for trying to switch an animal that is already not eating it's only gonna make it more difficult, try offering the same type prey than previously offered.

Thanks guys. I was pretty sure breeding wasnt going to be an option this season but just wasn't sure if maybe that meant she wasnt going to breed ever or if i should just gove her this year off and hope she breeds next year. And im pretty positive it was from a rat attack like she said because it looked pretty obvious thst something happened to the eye cuz the skon was hanging off it almost looked like a grey eye cap from a bad shed that dodnt come off but once she shed the eye looks perfectly fine now but has a tiny bit of a grey tint to it and she doesnt seem to respond much to movement on that side of her face thsts why i think shes blind in that eye
