"You Don't Taste Like A Rat!"
People are always asking me if I get bitten by my snakes, and up to this point, I hadn't. At least until feeding day of last week, that was.

She only held on for a couple of seconds, and then retreated back into her tub. I put the rat back into it's temporary container, washed off the blood, put a band aid on the wound, and went back and she finally got her rat. She is still recovering from having kids in late July, so that is more that likely why she is still so hungry? (back up to 1519 -almost her pre-lay weight) I was surprised at how badly it bruised!

I had the rat in the opposite hand that got bit. I'd like to get her back up to around 1700g+ before I start pairing her again. I think I am going with the firefly calico.

Sounds like some longer feeding tools may be in order.

Where did you buy these? I'm still not sure if I could hold a squirming rat with those....

I got all of these on eBay.

Just look up 12, 16, or 24 inch Hemostats. Those will "lock" onto the rodent's tail or ankle very easy.

or search for 12 or 16 inch tweezers.

I Prefer using the long tweezers, even on Jumbo/Colossal rats because sometimes I could not get the Hemostats to instantly unlock when the snakes would slam the rat.

I just recently bought feeding tongs. Hand feeding just stopped being as fun the bigger they get. Especially feeding my 2,000+ gram female. Good times though.

Congrats on your first bite!! ;3 not so bad, right? Lol my first bite was from my boa. Bled a lot, itched a bit, and swelled my hand up some, but it really didn't hurts. It's just kinda the shock factor that gets me! Rest assured I keep some distance between me and the prey now XD
