Tricked Her!
This little girl has only eaten f/t mice since I got her. She's not interested in rats. Tonight I warmed her up a mouse and a rat, and when she wouldn't come out of her hide to snag the rat, I lured her out with the mouse instead. I switched back to the rat hoping since she was now investigating the smell, she'd go for the rat, but she wasn't falling for it. So, I put the f/t mouse back in her cage, but zombie'd the f/t rat right next to it, hoping she'd mix up the smells and go for the rat. After some suspicious searching, she did eventually grab the rat and I was able to remove the mouse while she was eating the rat.:party: Just a little trick, I hope she goes right for the rat next time!

Fresh shed this morning. I need to hold her more so she stops being so shy.

Thank you for sharing that :) I'll definitely try your trick with my yearling girl.
When I got her, at the first 6 months she refused everything what I offered. Every sort of type, form, size, living, F/T or prekilled. I've tried smaller tubs, big cages, different hides, full deep cleaning before feed, put in the box for a car ride, don't offer nothing for one month, but nothing seems to work with her. In the next step I failed to assist feed mice and rats too, so she left me no more choice, I started to force feeding with rat pinks. After two-three FF attempts she took mice with assist feeding. Now she's slamming one single adult mouse per week, but when I try to give a rat, she still refuse even if it's scented. I'll try your method at the next feeding. If it'll working I'll be really happy.

Shy little cutie. I have had good luck with all my snakes taking to rats pretty quickly. I think it helps that I feed live.

Yeaaah, after a failed force feed I decided to try gerbils with him. He was getting close to 200g and was a year old, which is scary small. He's only eaten two gerbils for me in the 4 months I've had him.

I've never failed with force feedig. The assist feeding it's an other story tho.. 200g at 1 year is scary :(
