My first feeding of Brisket and Kitty
Brisket was eating live large mice at the breeder and Kitty was eating pre killed weaned mice. After letting them settle in to their new homes, we decided today was feeding day. I have a local source for rodents, but I don't want to have to go buy mice every week and I don't want to breed rodents so I bought 3 adult mice and 3 weaned mice, 3 fuzzy rats and 3 rat pups. My plan was to see if I could get them both to take pre killed rats instead of the mice. I made a kill box with a styrofoam cooler and dry ice/water. I held back one of each size mouse and rat just in case I couldn't get them to take the pre killed. Lucky for me they both took the pre killed rats no problem. Brisket did manage to start on the wrong end, but he did manage to get it down. I am pretty happy that they both ate with no issues.
I euthanized the remaining rodents that I held back and I vac sealed them all. So now I have food for the next 5 weeks. I guess then I'll see if they will take F/T. I am hoping so. If successful I'll continue to source my rodents from my local source and euthanize and freeze them myself.

That's great to hear . Presumably you'll save a small fortune by feeding frozen plus no money for petrol and no wasting time going to and from the store each week to but live rodents etc etc
Re: My first feeding of Brisket and Kitty
Yeah. 1.50 per juvenile rat and no shipping isn't bad. Local pet stores only carry adults and they are 12.00. Any size mouse is only 1.00 from the breeder. I like that I can buy only what I need for a month or two and not have to buy 25-50 at a time.

On first look , those two bottom pics look like a huge snake in a big room , beige carpet and a dark brown sofa settee :)

Just make sure you get your temps up when offering the frozen and all should go well.
Did you have to make they dance at all or were they happy with them just laying there?
I had to dance them a little bit. At first Brisket didn't seem interested, but then the rat pup fell off my tweezers and when I went back to grab it, he pounced on it. He did get the back end of it, but he managed to get it down. Kitty went into a ball and I had to coax her to stick her head out a bit. Then I danced it right in front of her nose a then she slammed it. It was a good feeling.

I love when they take it off the ground like that. My two pieds are like that while my other two haven't been interested in the f/t I have, but they've taken live so far. Hell last time I dropped the rat in the male pied's tub he put his head over it and I didn't think I could grab it with my 12" forceps without him being able to get my hand. So I took a step back and it's like he realized all of a sudden it was beneath him and he struck it.
