Father and Son Team in Chapel Hill NC

Hi Everyone,

We're glad to be here. I'm Jonah and my son is Aaron. We've been researching ball pythons for some time now and this past weekend went to Reptile Con in Raleigh NC where we bought a firefly morph. He's slowly acclimating to his new tank. We're nervous and excited to start this adventure and of course hope that it all goes well. We look forward to meeting y'all and getting to know you.

beautiful snake, and welcome. I'm new to the forum also.. so new I haven't even taken my shoes off yet. :) Are you using a UTH (Under tank heater) or is that a heat panel on the side of the tank? As long as the warm side is around 90 and the other side around 80, you should be okay. It would be good to have another hiding rock like the one you have to put on the opposite end of the tank as well. It's just recommended to have one on the warm side and one on the cool side. I did it when I set up my tank, and I have seen my snake use both of them daily.

Welcome! That was a very good show with a lot of great breeders! Who did you get this little stunner from?

Here's a better pic of the current setup. The under tank heaters don't seem to be doing much, so I unplugged them and am trying out the ceramic emitter you see on top. I appreciate your feedback, keep it coming!

How was the selection of feeders up there? I've heard great things about the snakes and we're thinking about popping up for a visit. People tend to like having clean, healthy food for beauties like yours.

There weren't any live, and only one vendor had frozen from what I saw. He had two freezers like the ones you see in gas stations holding ice cream stocked full of mice, rats and chicks.

The UTH are not really for ambient heat as much as they are to create a hot spot for your snake to lay on.
This is the main reason you want to regulate them with a thermostat or rheostat.
Without some type of regulation they can and will get to 120+ degrees and can cause burns to your animal.

Alright, sounds like you may need some up there. That way people can stock up much cheaper than pet store prices. Maybe this upcoming show or the next. And i agree with pit. You are going to need a shady area for cooling off and regulates temperature.
