Mystery het pied
Hey there. Picked up a dinker from the expo last week and my head is spinning over it. This girl is definitely het pied, the guy was selling it as a normal because even though he was sure there was something else going on with it, he couldn't identify either. I just want to see some opinions on her. Her coloration is very dark with the tracks on the belly and white blushing up the sides. Her patterning is what's strange though. Lots of circular brown spots and speckling. She looks very similar to either a dot or granite perhaps? Any insight is greatly appreciated.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11...9013600d93.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11...cfd93f9254.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11...8962483d89.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11...1a0f708261.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11...98de919209.jpg

Super neat looking girl! Het pieds are interesting because some can look totally normal while others look REALLY "het pied" with whacked out patterns and ringers.

I always lean towards the conservative side of "normal until proven otherwise" so I'll say I don't think she's any documented gene aside from being a het. That said, she's definitely a dinker. She'll be valuable to you if her het pied offspring are as crazy looking as she is, since it'll make it easy to pick out your holdbacks. (Or at least, more valuable than she already is to you!) :)

Did the breeder say what her parents were? That's the only sure way to know if she is in fact Het Pied.

I unfortunately don't remember what the parents were. I'll see the guy again in a few weeks and I'll ask again. He recommended getting a enchi pied or pastel pied to help me isolate whatever it is in her.

Definitely find out what both parents were. For what it's worth she does have that irregular patterning and defined coloration you see in het pieds. I have raised several 100% het pieds. The definitive way is to breed her back to a confirmed 100% het pied or a visual pied and see what she produces. Track markings are not a true indicator.

on which one?
A lot of people have told me mine is a leopard pastel but there was no leopard or pastel in the paring
Now i know that pied can throw leopards so that would not be unheard of but pastel? you should see a pic of the clutch on mine. here it is you can pick him out easy on the lower leftphoto was the day the last one shed
