What are the green bars underneath one's name, like I have one, but other people have 4 or 5.

They correspond to each individual's reputation level, the more green squares the higher the reputation.

There are two ways to add to someone's rep either by using the thanks button or by using the rep button, the rep button can also be used to deduct rep points.

The amount of points given or subtracted using the rep button varies from one member to another depending on their own reputation level, the higher the rep level the higher the number of points given or subtracted.

The thanks button adds one point each time it is used.
