    Hides too big?
    Hi all,

Haven't been on here really as I've been very busy in my path to become a vet. Been working at a local zoo and taking all the prereqs I never did as an undergrad, etc.

Anyway, based on some supplies they use at the zoo I decided to get newer, easier to clean hides for my BPs.

Got a bunch of rubber circular hog feeding dishes that I'm gonna drill holes in and put upside down in their enclosures.

Do you guys think a 17'' diameter by 4'' height hide is too big for a BP? I figured it'd work for a fully grown female (mine aren't quite there yet) but probably not for the males.

Would they work for females that are like 2/3 full sized or should I stick with the smaller dishes for now?

    Thanks!

17 inches is huge. My 7-8 foot Coastal Carpet fits into 9 1/2 inch water dish that is tapered.

My 5 ft female BP has a 9 inch long half log. It's about 5-6 inches wide and tapers very quickly height wise due to being half circle in depth. When she wants to, she can get 90-95 % covered.

I hear quite often here how these hides suck. But considering that she never had a hide for her first 11 years it is a nonissue. Temperament is great as well as eating, sans yearly hunger strike. (Just mentioning this for the husbandry police :) ). I have wasted a good amount of money on hides not big enough. I want a natural looking one.

Everything I own prefers a TINY hide that the snake can either barely squeeze into (I have a female that uses a hide she bursts out of), I'm assuming they like to feel "walls" on all sides... I opt for smaller hides regarding Balls.
