I'm new and I know what to do! (sort of)
Hey everyone! I have rescued my very own ball python and have had her for almost 2 years now. I am going to be building a new terrarium out of an entertainment center. I know ball pythons don't climb up much but I thought it would be fun and visually pleasing. I do have a lot of experience with many creatures and snakes being at the top of the list. I am from a rural area and there aren't many pet stores around so I'm a big fan of DIY projects. I have cared for snakes since I was around 10 when my dad remarried. His new wife had a couple breeds of large boas and a green tree python. I love adopting and found this girl in a pillow sack in a dumpster , how sad is that?! Shes in great shape, beautiful colors, eats large rats every three weeks and loves to be handled!
I hope to get a lot of use out of this forum! If anyone has a custom or DIY tank, send me a message with a picture. I'd love to get some ideas!
Steve

I'e tried more frequent feedings and she just won't take it. The rats are more of a cross between a medium and a large without struggling at all. Sometimes she will take it at the 2 week mark but even then its a toss up. I keep her terrarium around 80-85 degrees and 55-65% humidity. I have a white halogen for daylight and ambient temperature and a red halogen for at night, a blue and white led so I can see her beautiful colors and a uvb that she occasionally basks under. my warm side contains a hide with a belly warmer and cool side contains a hide with no uth and water in the middle. She sheds around the 6 week mark on a regular basis and is always active and healthy so I haven't tried changing the feed schedule. I do use frozen and thaw them under warm water.

How tall is youre terrarium? Im looking at going 3 to 4 feet tall and I really hope my girl utilizes all the space.

Never say never! My ball Marshall loves to climb... The one time he managed to escape his locked, supposedly secure cage and I found him 6 ft high off the ground on shelving units! Since then, I got him a tank 3' tall and 3' wide. He's almost always as high as he can get!
