Burm nose rub healing help. (heat pit issue)

https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...69&oe=56433A0Esorry about the quality but his nose is rubbed. i took him to the vet and they gave him this stuff in a blue jar to rub on his face ive been doing this for a week or two. i took him out to play today and he loved it (nothing out the ordinary there) but i looked at his nose rub to check its healing status and it appeared as if one heat pit had a scab completely in it (still attached and healing) and HIS right front heat pit seems completely gone! he hasnt shed since his incident with trying to be houdini and am wondering will his heat pits re appear upon next shed? Also he does this every year between october and january (previous owner made that clear) its just that this is new to me and it looks kind of bad? Information of ANY kind is greatly appreciated. His head had an abrasion prior to the vet visit and is healing beautifully, it was way worse two weeks ago.

Most big male snakes get a bad care of "nose rub" or "face smash" during breeding season. All you can really do is manage the problem.

I have an adult male retic that was doing it for a while. Taking him outside for 45 minutes to exercise or just hang out on the lawn every 2-3 days helped, but unfortunately that's not going to be an option now that colder weather has arrived.

I also apply Vetericyn gel to the area daily to help it heal. It's easy to use - just squirt a dab on your finger and then rub it onto your snake's face. I've heard it's also good for mouth rot but haven't had to try that.

Ouch. Yep, male face smoosh. One of our breeder male retics does it too. A few people have reported that cluttering up the enclosure helps distract them while they investigate the changes, but only for a while.

Otherwise all you can do really is manage it by giving him lots of exercise, and apply topical ointment to the area to help it heal. What did the vet give you?

Alternatively, you can get him a girlfriend...
