Growing Your Own Food-Who does it?

Anyone grow their beardie's food? How successful are you with it/how easy can it be? I only have one, but I hate how the store doesn't have her favorite things some times.

Just started growing my own clover! Not sure if it saves much money, more so doing it for fun. In the summer Im sure the little guy will get some veggies from our outdoor garden.

Our animals get some but only in the cooler months.

Are you primarily asking about the bugs?

Josh's Frogs sells the starter kits to get several things going - springtails, dubias, crickets, fruit flies, etc. Very informative videos too. ( I don't have a beardie, but have looked into this actually as a backup for the chickens. Springtails and pill bugs are apparently also good for keeping a planted viv biologically active.)

I haven't ordered from them. I have ordered just plants from New England Herpetoculture. Excellent customer service. They sell similar things, so you can compare prices.

Actually for the greens lol

I grow kale and or collard greens (year round) and squash (summer) also I do not have a beardie but I i
have a BTS.

We have our own organic garden so the BTS benefits from that too, he even gets fresh fruits in the summer also (Blueberry and Figues)

Well, if ya really wanna get in over your head, go with aquaculture. With enough lighting, tons of greens can be grown inside this way. The electric bill may be another issue - you are continuously pumping water as well as running lights.

An aborted attempt at aquaculture several years ago is how I ended up with gold fish. At least gold fish are pretty.

Will a beardie eat sprouts?
sprouts are VERY easy to do.

I grow a great deal of lettuce in the fall and winter months. It is too hot here to raise it in the summer. Our yard also supports lots of editable weeds. Kale and swiss chard are easy for me, but collards always get some sort of downy buggy mess on them. No luck with cabbage either. Parsley is easy, and does well in pots. The trick with parsley (and carrots) is cooler germination temps, keep the soil damp the entire time, and patience. Parsley can take a month to germinate. I feed more carrot tops than root carrots. The guinea pig needs fresh greens daily. All the other livestock appreciate some too.

My parents have a pair of fig trees (one gold, one purple). We used to give them to my iguanas from time to time and they couldn't get enough of them. Since they're a more rare and expensive fruit there isn't a lot of information on what reptiles can have them in their diet, though. Are they good for beardies, too, or no?

I do not own a beardie so I am not sure, figs are one of the many fruits you can feed to BTS so it will work for beardies just not sure as far as the amount goes.

My BTS diet is 40% (Veggie) 50% (Protein) 10% (Fruits)
