Water bowl allocation

First time poster, forgive me if this is a re-occurring question, I did try to check, but is it acceptable to place my water bowl under my ceramic heater as a means to increase humidity? Currently averaging in the early forties and want to push it up into the mid fifties-early sixties. I do not have a BP in there as of current as I am wanting to get conditions perfect before I make the purchase. I know another option is creating a damp hide with sphagnum moss, though I am unsure as to whether this would affect the surrounding humidity or just serve as a cosy wet place for the noodle. Just so you know the viv is wooden and the bedding is aspen. Any advice is much appreciated. :)

Aspen isn't great for humidity. I use tubs and find they hold humidity great. I have no problems with them.

I have a Brazilian Rainbow boa juvi and she needs high humidity. To do that, all I have in her tub is a large water bowl over the uth (best way to create humidity IMO) and a bedding of cypress mulch that I mist.

Heat lamps suck humidity out like crazy. A uth is a much better option and then you could put the bowl over it.

I made a modification to the lexan recommendation, and used a piece of cardboard wrapped in foil tape...there's a picture of it in the thread on p. 3.

You might also try using a humid hide....there are several approaches using bpa-free plastic tubs etc. Here's a sample video:

You can also use a heated soldering iron to smooth out holes you carefully cut out in the plastic..

Thanks! I think the humid hide is a great idea. I experimented a bit with moving the water bowl and also a bit of damp sphagnum moss and it has brought the humidity up to 50%. If i can maintain at 50 with a damp hide, do you think this would be adequate for a ball?

Yep. 55-60% is ideal, but 50 is good enough. You'll get there as you play around with the hides. And to answer your original question, water bowl placement is important, so under your CHE is a good idea.

I've got a large water bowl in a 40 gallon long tank, situated halfway over a large UTH. I use cypress mulch, which is quite moist in my opinion for substrate... My humidities are running in the 50's during the day. Much of the screen top is covered, and there is a basking lamp on the other end that is aimed at a fake desert stone hide that helps warm the other end of the tank during the day. My relative humidity can rise towards 80% at night when the light is out. Using a herpstat 4 for data now.

I'm new to this so dont take me as an authority.. just a data point.

I have a heat lamp and uth. I use the mist king system. I think it's the best solution. I love it! Timed mist couple times a day and bam perfect humidity!
