New Adoption

Hello everyone,

I went to an Exotic Pet Amnesty Day to adapt my first BP. I chose a gorgeous female Lesser Platinum with a past medical condition. The Vet at the event diagnosed her with a past vent infarction and a bunch of scar tissue that will keep her from breeding. I'm fine with not breeding her but I can't find any information on what troubles I will need to look out for with the scar tissue next to the vent. Any info will be appreciated. Another concern is she is 53 inches long and weighs 1550 grams. I read on another post on the forum that all snakes are different and as long as they don't have a triangle shape to there bodies they are healthy. She seems round enough to me but at the same time she looks thin. Any thoughts? Lastly, I've been feeding her live small rats. She consumes them and excretes them just fine but I don't see a lump in her during the digestive process. I believe I need to move up to medium rats, second opinions?

i would make sure her vent is clean after each poop and pee. i wouldn't want residue waste to get stuck in her scar tissue.

also what kind of substrate are u using for her? i don't know if scar tissue is irritated by chipped or shredded wood substrate, but if it does, i would switch her to paper.

put her on medium mice, see how she likes it and if her shape/weight improves for u.

Ax01 I will definitely look out for the poop and pee in her vent, great tip :). I have been using aspen bedding so far and she seems to be happy with it. I'll give the paper a try next enclosure clean and see if there is a difference in her temperament. I'll be getting the medium this weekend, I'll update then.

The medium rat should make her even more happy :-) Good job for adopting this pretty girl!

Update on my Adoption!!!

I just weighed an measured her today and grew 300 grams and 6-9 inches. I really can't get a good measurement on her. I jumped her up to medium rats and feed her every 7 days. Just want to make sure this is normal(ish) growth. All input is appreciated.

sounds like your doing a good job. alot of times neglected BP will explode in growth when given proper care. it sounds like she's right there now for a normal sized adult female at 1800grams and 5 feet.
