 Well, this is kind of a semi-funny story I guess - My 75 year old mother stays with me and over the last few years that I have been involved in the reptile hobby she has slowly grown to accept and even show and interest in my herps. She was scared at first but I have slowly won her over by showing her that snakes are not really ALL that bad and she will even handle my Ball Pythons and Corn Snake and she even asks lots of questions about them.
Well, this Saturday I went to the IRBA show and purchased a juvenile Dumerils Boa and a juvenile Sinaloan Milksnake. So, I get home and I first show my mom the Dumerils and this is one mellow and gentle snake...a real baby doll. Ok, so now it is time to show her my beautiful new Milksnake. This is the point where I rapidly learned that Milksnakes are not the nicest snakes in the world. I opened the lid of the container and this snake went berserk...it jumped out and musked me and then pounced on my mother and seized the skin of her wrist with its jaws and proceeded to start CHEWING   Oh man.....this was bad news big time...my poor mom looked like she was gonna faint and I was struggling to get this maniac snake off her wrist without damaging its jaws and teeth....this little #$@! was actually chewing and twisting its head from side to side...amazing  My mom kept moaning "John...get it off me..." so I finally managed to persuade it to release and got it back in its container - my mom had a fine series of puncture marks on her wrist and it was bleeding a little but she was okay.
Well, my mom ( sweet lady that she is ) actually took it all in stride and has christened this Sinaloan Milksnake " KILLER" ...my mom is actually kind of proud that she has actually been bitten by a snake for the first time in her life and has shown everybody the bite mark on her wrist...I am amazed that she did not go bananas over this. Ummm...I guess you could say that I have learned a lesson about this from what happened...I did not know enough about the temperment of this kind of snake and I made a mistake just assuming that it was like a corn snake or something..I am glad that my mom is okay and isnt all freaked out or something - it could have been worse I guess. I AM embarrassed about it though...I should have known better   :(
