What do you prefer in a GHI Mojave?

My son just turned 16 and he said he wanted a ball python for his birthday. I was shocked and somewhat surprised by this since he has never expressed an interest before. He did have a nice Leopard Gecko some time ago, but since then he hadn't shown a real interest in snakes. I have been a lover of all reptiles since a very young age and always had them around until I got married 20 years ago. I even considered becoming a herpetologist at one time. Anyways, I gladly told him yes (cheaper than a car right?) and we are in the process of getting his cage and all the other odds and ends associated with it and have been trying to decide on which BP we would go with.

He really has an affinity for the GHI Mojave. They are such beautiful creatures and a very interesting morph. My question is, what pattern do you prefer? I have seen ones that with barely any visible side pattern and a fairly solid top pattern (stripe) to some that have visible alien heads on the side and very broken up and random top pattern. I know my son would prefer a more solid top line. Is that more desirable or just a personal preference?

IMO personal preference.


i just got one i would describe as a 75% faded/reduced pattern and it a stripe similar to the BP in the second pix.


i'm sure some would argue that the more reduced pattern is desirable b/c it adds to a more darker looking snake.


my fav GHI Mojave of the one u posted would be number 3 and i definitely don't like the stripe on the 4th one. too thick, too solid, no personality. but that's my opinion and preference. other's may deem that a desirable quality.

I really like the third one as well. I am waiting on a picture of a female who will be coming for sale in a month or so. Our cage should be here next week sometime so we have some time, but I am jonesing as much as my son is.

I almost pulled the trigger on this one (Fire YB Pin) for myself but my wife shot me down. :(

did u see the pix of the GHI Mojave girl MidSouthMorphs got today? it's in the picture forum. beautiful, really reduced pattern girl. also i'll post mine soon. someone on the forum has a Lesser GHI Mojave. i can't wait for him to post those pix.

I happen to like the reduced pattern in them, but it's entirely personal preference, and if you're going to breed to another pattern morph.

This is tough...I like all of them that I see :P. But I think for mine I'm going to go for one that's really dark and a somewhat reduced pattern.

I like the first one for the reasons Ax01 had mentioned, reduced patter causes more of the snake to be really dark. The bright color stands out more on those snakes IMO. I love this morph and think your son has made a great choice =)

I prefer the broken dorsal stripes, but it all comes down to personal preference.

Let your son pick, everyone likes different things and it doesn't really matter much. Me personally I kind of like the first and last ones, I like the really dark ones but I like them bold as well. None of the ones shown quite fits my version of ideal, but only because I'd like!e those darker shades to show a bit more pattern. I've seen one like I'm describing before but I don't have a pic, lol. Just know what I like.

I also like GHI Mojave. What I look for is a personal preference and it would be a nice contrast from the bright yellow and dark colors. Also I like to see a small bit of faded pattern.
