Heat Tape, Heat Panel, UTH, or ALL

I ordered Ginger a Pro-Line modular cage, and need help configuring all aspects of heating. I already have a UTH for her 60 gallon aquarium. The enclosure is 48x23x23.......

Can I run a RHP on one side for ambient heat, with the UTH underneath for the hot spot?

There will definitely be some debate about this, but there is a large contingency of people that now run only a RHP, of the proper wattage for your enclosure, and that is it. As long as you are achieving appropriate hot/cool side temps, a RHP is all you need. RHPs provide IR heat from above, similar to natural sunlight, which is how reptiles evolved over millions of years to thermoregulate. Check out RBI, and use them as a resource to find the appropriately sized RHP. I am going to be using a 40w RHP in my new 4x2x1 enclosures. You might need to up the wattage for the added height of your enclosure.

Added benefits of RHPs are a much safer heating system, low to no potential for burns, and energy efficiency. If you go with a RHP make sure you get some system to control temps. It can be as easy as a lamp dimmer, or you can go with a thermostat.

I also say put High Density foam underneath the tank too. I am just setting my tank up and have it running in a basement. there was a noticeable difference ref how hard the RHP was working when I added the foam.

What kind of enclosure do you have? If the room is above 75 deg, and the enclosure is 1/2" pvc, and up off the floor, insulating isn't really necessary. But it's definitely a good thought if the RHP is straining to produce good temps.

I have AP T8 - The basement is at 68 today and gets well below that in winter.
