    heat panel clicking
    Today we purchased a heat panel and a vivarium 100 thermostat... is it normal that it clicks the heat panel on and off to maintain temp? its fine for a while than it starts clicking on and off... kind of annoying. if thats normal.. ill just get used to it... thanks

    Some thermostats work by simply turning the heater on and off. Once the temperature falls to a certain level then it turns the heater back on. OTOH proportional thermostats work by increasing or decreasing the amount of electricity going to the heater so the temperature stays constant.

    Your thermostat is the first type. If it is annoying get a proportional thermostat. They are usually more expensive but IMO they're better as the temperatures are more stable in the enclosure.

    The VE100 is an on/off thermostat, that is the click you are hearing.
    Step up to the VE200 and you get the option of proportional, it regulates the power output instead of just turning it off.
