    Looking to Downsize. Advice needed
    Hey guys,

I've come to the realization that I can't really support what I have anymore. So I need to cut back. I have a lot of normal females. Too many for my breeding needs. What would you say is a fair price? I have females varying in size from small (1600ish) to gigantic (3000+). I don't trust Kingsnake prices anymore so I can't really go by that.

    Thanks.

KindKind of a loaded question, as some will cite the potential cash that can be made, but I have been seeing them go for anywhere from $50 up to $200, but by far the normal range I see them going for is $100 or less. Heck, I just saw a proven female pastel that was probably 2k+ grams go for $65. Should have jumped on her myself, she looked better than a lot of the pastels I've seen. I'm in the same boat as you actually. Only its not that I can't support what I have so much as needing to stay at a certain number of adults, and needing to make room for those animals reaching breeding size. Plus some extra slots for the last couple projects I want to start. That's the market in my area, anyway.

The problem is there are two markets, breeder projects and pets.

Obviously if your buyer just wants a pet they won't pay as much as someone looking for a project for the most part.

How much work do you want to do searching for the best market?

It won't be worth the effort doing a long distance search because shipping is too expensive for "just a normal", especially larger ones. And will people be willing to drive far as well with regional advertising such as CL? And it's hard competing with free to almost free adults that pop up from time to time on CL as well.

Is this the curse of the Normal? Which are still some of my favorites!

    Do you take a loss?

I know a few people that are having a hard time selling proven normals for 50$ and just marked them down to 30$ so..proven pastels are going for 100 from what I have seen

At the local reptile show last week there were adult proven normal and pastel females averaging $75-175/ea

I think you'd be lucky to get $50.00 a piece for them. I've been volunteering for my herp society's adoption committee and we regularily get in several nice large normal female balls every month and have a hard time placing them in a permanent home for free. I have about 15 large normal females myself and haven't bred them for years, they just sit around sucking down rats and getting fat.

$50 to a $100 if you have the right exposure and if you have a solid presence and reputation in this industry.

If you need to move them fast and not sit on them for a year or so wholesaling will be your best pet, sure it won't bring the much money but you will make some, the wholesaler will likely pay for shipping (depending on who you use) and you will save space and no longer have to feed them.

The time of $200 for normal is long time gone.

I see normal females go for around $120 as pets at the odd local shop. Sometimes people even as plain pets prefer adult animals because they are afraid they are going to fail raising it to adulthood and think the grown snakes are easier to care for. I wouldn't be afraid to ask for a firm $100 from anyone breeder or not.

Thanks everyone. I am not looking to get a max price. Just a good realistic range. I want to move them out but don't want to get lowballed either.
