Wobble

Hi I'm new to this form and I did have a bit of a look about regarding this but could not see anything right away.

I have just got myself my first snake, a 2 month old champagne royal python, she has feed 6 times, she was a late starter, and has shed once.

I was unaware of the 'wobble' and very unware that it only effects certain morphs.

My girl is very pretty and I am very happy with her, she does have a slight wobble, it does not effect her feeding or movement of what I can see. she is happy in her tank and all is well.

I suppose my question is, will this get worse, better or stay the same, I have read that time will tell, but this is regarding the spider morph, I'm guessing this is the same will of morphs, I have seen on face-tube some pretty awful cases and it saddens me, but just want to check.

Just like with spiders, champagne wobbles will vary over the course of their life. However champagne wobbles are usually less severe than the average spider so I wouldnt be horribly concerned.

I had these same questions when I got my first Spider. "How bad is it?". Short answer is that it is not IMO, but opinions do vary. I've seem some absolute train wrecks on the web, and one in person that did corkscrew but that does not dissuade me at all. Some like me, think that it is rather enduring, and I've seen several snakes that were quite old with various degrees of wobble. Does it impact their life? Not really. Mine are on f/t food and I do make sure that the prey item is very close so they don't miss too often, but that's about it. Keep in mind that it tends to manifest when the snake is excited...i.e, feeding.

I didn't even realize the champagne morph was subject to this until after I had my girl for a while. She shows no readily noticable wobble, nor does the first of her offspring so far, but that is just my two. The spiders I've had by comparison show it quite clearly, especially when feeding time is involved, but in mine its just a little silly, not a hindrance.

I didn't realize the Champagne gene had a wobble "issue" either. I have two bp's with the Spider gene. My male has a more pronounced wobble, but still only when excited, at feeding time or when he is startled. But he seems to have control of it. My female is more of a "spinner" than a wobbler, where her head goes straight back into what looks like a back bend. My male tends to do this little move, too. I've never seen this little dance from any of my other bp's, so I assume it's their "Spidey Dance". LOL My girl never misses when she strikes (my boy sometimes), but she has a slight wobble when she knows she is about to feed, too. Hers is almost imperceptible. I think it's really adorable, myself.

Our spider female has no noticeable wobble at all. She just misses once in a while when feeding.

That would be a wobble. Stress her more and it will get worse.



Personally its more character. Love my spiders and combos.

I read a post on this site awhile back regarding the spider wobble and one person commented saying something along these lines, "we think of them as our short-bus snakes", I thought that was kinda funny had started using it lol. I have several snakes with the spider gene and all of them have varying degrees of the 'wobble'. Their quality of life does not seem to be impacted in anyway to include one of my newest hold backs (banana spider that hatched in Aug) who seems to have it the worst (he gets his 'spidey dance' on allll the time). In my limited experience the condition does not worsen with age, only with excitement/stimulation). I had not heard that the spider gene causes a more pronounced wobble than the ivory or woma snakes, will have to look into that.
