Interesting sighting

Just came home to see a juvenile turkey vulture sitting on my roof. We don't see them around here very often and was wondering why it would be sitting there on the roof of my garage. When I got out of the car I was suddenly reminded of the bag of rats I had tossed in the garbage yesterday. I had set out a bag of frozen rats to thaw a few days ago and had forgotten about them until they were a little ripe and then tossed them in the trash outside, it must be a pretty powerful attractant, garbage pickup day can't get here soon enough. [emoji13]

We have birds that look just like that (southern NM). They hang out in groups on specific favorite trees.
Ours must be well fed, because there has been a nearby road kill raccoon for the past week, plus. I pass it every morning with dogs, and I've never seen them near it.

Mystery.

So feed him!!

NO WAY!! The rats were still in their heat sealed bag and it had blown up like a balloon, if I touch that thing it'll blow for sure. If he's that hungry he can fish it out of the trash on his own...

They're still in the bag but I can smell them pretty easy myself, it is pretty impressive though that this guy must have smelled them from pretty far away.

maybe you have a new pet bird for life haha! A wild peacock landed on our roof 2 years ago and despite my best efforts to get her to leave she is still here, every morning she is sitting on my SUV, walking through my planters, digging for bugs. I have gotten over feeling like she is a pest and am not convinced that I will make her my friend haha. After 2 years she lets me get about 1 ft from her, so its only a matter of time before I get to pet her.

Should of got a falcon..

Making new friend I see.

Amazing how those guys can smell death.
