    UTH questions.
Before you ask yes I have a damn thermostat. Just one question. Is the UTH suppse to keep the floor of the enclosure warm? Or the whole area/air above it? I'm worried that just the ground is 90 (is that whole side of the tank suppse to be 90)?

    UTH questions.
The UTH is to create a warm place for your BP to lie upon, which is why there should be a hide over it. Ambient heat is controlled by other heat sources, such as panels and bulbs.

Why should there be a hide over it?

A lot of people place a hide on top of where the UTH is so that there is a warm spot for their BP to be in the cage. The proverbial "hot side" of the cage, vs the cool side

    Great start there..................
An UTH is only for surface heat, it will raise ambient a little but not more that a couple degrees above the room.
Are you getting the 90 degrees from what you set the thermostat to or off of a thermometer?

Both. The thermometer says 90 and the that's what I have the thermostat set at. I just want go make sure he's okay.

Now for some reason I was under the impression that I couldn't keep a bulb on all the time. How else would I created ambient heat?

I hear ya. Not all animals use/need hides though, which is what I'm getting at. Animals without hides are able to thermoregulate just as well as animals without when they're in an environment they're comfortable in.

You certainly could keep a bulb on all of the time. Usually the bulbs you do this with aren't light bulbs - they're typically ceramic heat emitters (CHEs). You could keep a light bulb on all of the time, but since BPs don't really need light, there's not much of a point in it.

I mean how do I create ambient heat? I keep my house very cold.
