Moving with a Felony

I know this may not be a popular subject, but it's something I have no experience with so I'm looking for help anywhere I can. I'm looking to move on November 2nd (that's my pick up date). I'm moving with my brother, who as of two years ago now has felonies on his record. I was never able to secure felon friendly housing where I live now, so he had to move in with our aunt in California.

To make a long story short we're moving again, and I need to know how to look for felon friendly housing. He doesn't have a violent felony, but I'm not sure if that effects anything. This is the first time I've had to deal with this problem.

I don't know from experience, but I would think your best bet is to find a private rental and not a complex type place where they do background checks. Do keep in mind that you'd probly want a place where there aren't a lot of apartments in the building because if they are willing to rent to non violent felons they won't care about renting to the violent as well. Be safe

So, this might put you in an area with dangerous people but... You can look up sexual predator registries online and see geographically where they are all located in the area you're moving to. Those areas are probably not going to deny housing to someone for a non-violent felony. You could probably find slightly safer housing just on the outskirts of the 'predator' areas (seriously, I check those out wherever I've lived and they tend to be concentrated in specific areas rather than spread out). But yeah, be safe with that.

That's a good idea. It looks like I'm down to sifting through online adds, contacting the posters and hoping to dodge the background check question. I'm trying to see if my work might help me find housing there as well.

You can also call parole officers and ask advice. I'm sure that's a part of what they end up dealing with.
