Biggest Readily available Colubrid
I have been looking around, and from what I have seen, are the bullsnakes/pinesnakes the largest, colubrid species you will easily be able to purchase? i know some of the other ones such as indigo's get quite large, however they are pricey and hard to get ahold of. I have some boa's and a few retics, but would like to expand to one of these guys, so any input is appreciated :D
Re: Biggest Readily available Colubrid
I do know that some brooks kings have pushed 7+ feet from what I read that's why I picked up one and he is around 4 feet now and still growing fast eating medium rats once a week now

King rat snakes can get up to 7.5 feet. Pretty feisty snakes though. As far as price goes I found some hatchlings for 150$
Re: Biggest Readily available Colubrid
I recently saw some babies for sale from a blue beauty mom that is reported to be 11 feet. False Water Cobras are pretty heavy bodied and regularly get over eight feet long.
Re: Biggest Readily available Colubrid
Eastern Indigos are my favorite snake and the ultimate colubrid IMO. I would keep them but they're banned here in GA. I have (2) bull snakes that are totally AWESOME. My female turns two this month and she's already over 6ft and 2100g. My yearling male is 4ft and 1000g. They both have great dispositions and eat like MONSTERS! I highly recommend them.
Re: Biggest Readily available Colubrid
I had eastern Indigos and yellowtail cribos. They are beautiful.
I had Boas and ypythons because I love heavy bodied snakes.
Bullsnakes (Pituophis c. sayi) are almost heavily bodied as a Boa, but with a faster metabolism and much much more active.
I keep my snakes in display cages, not in racks because I want to see my pets. That's the reason I prefer now more active snakes.
Last Saturday I picked up my 1.1 Pituophis c. sayi, Kingsville red tiger. They are from 2 different clutches. I must be patient with these little hackers. They hiss and strike when ever they see something. But that's well-known for kingsville reds and kingsville red tigers. They'll stop and calm down at 1 year. The parents are 8ft. and beautiful heavy bodied, very active snakes. You may use the web search to see photos of the Kingsville red tiger Bullsnakes. Also the Stillwater hypo is a very nice Bullsnake. These 2 are lokal colorforms of the Bullsnakes.
Take care and have much fun with the beautiful snakes.
Cheers and greetz from Germany.
