First litter on the ground (second soon to come)!
Just wanted to post that I've gotten my first litter and will soon have my second. I'm primarily breeding for pet purposes (it's impossible to get tame well-bred pet rats here unless you drive at least 3 hours). But I plan to use the rats that aren't suitable for my breeding program as feeders. Parents of this litter are a beige velveteen dumbo female and Russian Dove variegated dumbo male. The other litter has the same father, but the mother is a Russian blue dumbo female. The beige female gave birth to 14 babies today and according to the breeder, there could be mink and Russian blue in her lines as well, so we could get black, RB, beige and mink in the litter. About half should also be velveteen (aka teddy rex, a soft less curly version of rex). The other male i have is a Russian cinnamon velveteen, so I'm hoping for a mink female baby keeper to breed with him (as far as I know, cinnamon is agouti mink).
I will post a very bad pic of the mother with pups and a pic of the male and second female below... I really need to get a good camera.

What did you do with the pups you removed?
Re: First litter on the ground (second soon to come)!
Curious, is there something in there for her and the babies to hide in? My girl barely sniffed me (and she's a shy rat, has yet to fully trust me) when she had her litter, and I didn't have anything for her to actually nest inside. It's been almost two weeks, and I decided to put a little igloo in with her, I stuck my finger in there and she mouthed it for the first time. She didn't bite hard but there was some pressure, so I'm just wondering if that would make a difference with the aggression. (There being a hide or not.)
I mean, I know a very large breeder who has possibly thousands of rats and you can stick your hands in any bin and none of them bite, not even nursing mom's. It's crazy, no handling and perfect pet temperament.
I also realize you have another thread specifically for the aggression issue.. sorry. Lol
