Hey, I decided to get a snow corn for my mom as her Christmas present.

I remember when I had my corns that I didn't have a hide for them, they had wood shavings they burrowed in. Is that ok instead of a hide? I was thinking bed-a-beast bedding.

What about aspen?I use it and it works great, although i still use a hide.

Aspen's good too. I like bed-a-beast because it's compact in the brick form (easier to store if you get more than one) and it's cheap.

If it's deep enough for the snake to get completely under, what's the use of a hide?

Good point.I use a hide because if i put 2 inches of aspen on the warm side,my heat pad has a hard time getting through it.My cool side has like 2 1/2 inches of aspen in it.

Ah, I see. Well, that's a good point too. The heat pads I usually get are high powered enough that I usually would have to put a couple of inches of substrate on anyway.

Well,I don't see the point of using a hide.

I do - just in case your snake prefers one. My corn will only sometimes burrow in the bedabeast, but is in his hide more often. I think it's important to give them choices (choices in types/number of hides, choices in temps, etc). Unless you are talking about a burrowing species (sand boa) I think you should always offer a choice of at least one hide on each end of the gradient. Besides, I think they may feel more secure in a hide sometimes. Just my opinion. :)

Ok then. That's good enough for me. I'll put two hides then.

Yup, I agree with Tigergenesis. I use aspen so my corn can burrow, but I also have 2 hides. She mostly just used her hides. :)
