    Ermergerd!
So i was about to order a herpstat off amazon. i notice people are always saying they weren't cheap so i knew it would cost, but holy hell! im not broke, not by any means! on a scale of 1-broke to 10-money's no object, im about 7 or 8. i just cant see myself spending that much on one item though, and i have 5 bp. so my question, before i break down and buy this thing, is there an alternative?

    You only need one.
Also all 5 have to have IDENTICAL heats sources.
What are you using for enclosures?

If you have five snakes what have you been using up until now to regulate heat?

Yes the better t-stats cost money but when you can run a whole rack on just one they start to look pretty cheap.

i've been using heat pads. however, my roommate who is home during the day left town suddenly so i dont have anyone to monitor the temperatures during the day. i didnt know i could use one. but i may be calling it the wrong name. i have my BPs in one room, but they are in seperate tubs and tanks. I have one in a tub because she's just more comfortable there, i just moved another to a tub to get her to eat, the other 3 are in tanks. i dont have them in racks.

As long as the heating pad are the same size and watts you can run off of one t stat...as long as it under the max load of the tstat... what do you mean monitoring temps are the pads regulated at all?

not really. regulated by roommate mostly if that counts. she turns them off or on when she checks the humidity in their enclosures.

Have you actually seen what an unregulated heat source can do?
Wish I would have taken photos from when I got her. All the puss and stuff oozing out of the cooked skin.

This is the proper way to set up heat.

As long as all of your heat pads are the same you can plug them all into one power strip and then plug the strip into the thermostat.
Attach the probe to one of the mats and then fine tune it from there.
