Incredible Atlas Moth Female- Wingspan over 10 inches!

The Atlas Moth (Attacus atlas) is one of the largest moths with females having a wingspan over 10 inches! I believe they are second only to the Hercules moth, which is the largest species in the world.

Those are beautiful. I used to have a mounted specimen hung on my wall when I was a child. When I was young boy I used to go hunting for cocoons. I once found about two dozen polyphemus and a dozen cecropia cocoons. When they started hatching we had moths everywhere. My favorite moths are either the luna moth (Actias luna) or the oleander hawk moth (Daphnis nerii).
