A few days ago my boyfriend and I adopted two red eared sliders.

Out of the blue, he announced that he had always wanted turtles. I've never put any thought into turtles, honestly. They were never a species I thought I would own, even after getting into reptiles.

So I did what I do whenever I'm considering a new species - researched the heck out of them. The care didn't sound as difficult or expensive as I imagined, especially if I used a few DIY and "less pretty but still perfectly functional" options.

Anyway, I got on board, and we went and met these two beautiful turtles that apparently had a good sized tank with a basking area in the past, but recently had been living in a large, shallow Tupperware container laid in the bathtub, with a couple of inches of water.

They seemed friendly, and looked reasonably healthy, so we decided to take them home.

Here are some photos of their first few days with us. :) Still perfecting the setup, but it's a HUGE step up from where they came from. Making a trip to the pet store later today for more supplies.

TL;DR - we are in love with these turtles. [emoji1]
