Ugh... Potential RI

As of yesterday, everything was completely fine with Moose. Ate on Wednesday, and because no one around sells appropriately sized live prey, scheduled to eat again today (also out cruising for food today, so she's definitely still feeling like eating... Her tank has a dark lid, so it's not weird for her to be out during the day). But this morning when I got her out to check her over like I always do, I noticed she's whistling pretty bad. Her temps stay in the right range, and she does soak her bedding quite often by flipping her water dish, but I usually catch that within a couple hours and replace it.
She should be about to shed, so since she's not showing any other RI signs like mucous/mouth gaping/tilting her head up, I think I'm going to give it a day or two to see if she's just about to shed. But if any other symptoms pop up or continue after the shed I'm going to annoy my vet by showing up without an appointment.

I've never actually dealt with an RI before, but I'm thinking I'm going to ask them to do a culture before prescribing anything. I realize that the broad spectrum stuff has a good chance of wiping most things out, but if it doesn't I don't want to waste that time not treating the real problem.

I'm sorry, I'm going through a RI for the first time with Louie. Temps and humidity are all right for him and the vet was pretty amazed he got one at all but they do happen. I hope moose will be okay and happy and healthy!! Keep us updated!

Well, I went back to check on her just a bit ago, and no whistling at all. I watched her move around her tank for about fifteen minutes and no noise. Considering the extent of the whistling this morning compared to now, I don't believe it was from an RI. I had checked her nose for anything that might be causing the noise, but found nothing, but I guess something could've been there that I missed.

I'll still watch her for any more symptoms, but as of now I don't believe it's an RI.

i'm glad to hear that Moose is improving (or whatever it was isn't there anymore). :) it was good that u noticed it early and monitored her.

lol Yeah, I'm thinking that was just my paranoia showing and she had something caught in her nose.

preventive measures are good. better safe than sorry for our babies! :)

Sometimes they get a minute piece of dirt or bedding stuck in one of their nostrils and it can cause them to sound funny when they move. If no other symptoms are present, I wouldn't worry too much. It sounds like you're doing a fine job with moose!
