We have quite a few long term goals, so it will be fun the next few seasons watching us get closer to that goal!

I was so intrigued by this post. I read BP.net from my phone when I go to sleep and when I get up in the morning. I read each post in a new tab. I couldn't close this tab, I slept on it, or spend the day thinking about it and slept on it last night (not sure which). But this morning I knew what was bugging me. The pairings.

I have to say I'm amazed you have next year planned out. My only thought about next year has been my favorite snake (mother of Logan) who is already building for next season, flying out of the cage to eat, and eating extra times a week. Also, not to forget, I appreciated your response to my introduction thread.

So part of why I took so long to respond to this post was because I did not want to appear rude or know-it-all. I didn't want to come off like, "Gee, those are terrible pairings...". I don't think that at all - I also think you have some great snakes there. But one little part did niggle in my brain for days and it affects three pairings.

I can see the long term game plan with pairing #3 (from the short list). But if you took the male from pairing #1 to the female from pairing #3 you have the possibility of several Worlds Firsts.

    Cinnamon Hypo Mojave Pastel Pinstripe
    Cinnamon Hypo Mojave Pastel
    Cinnamon Hypo Pastel Pinstripe
    Cinnamon Hypo Mojave Pinstripe
    Hypo Mojave Pastel Pinstripe
    And more...

So I got up about an hour ago, cranked up my genetic calculator (I wrote myself), added your genes and did that pair. Below is a cut-and-paste of the results:

So I would change those pairings to be something like:
--hypo pastel cinnamon x hypo pinstripe Mojave
--pastel super vanilla x hypo Mojave

And maybe give the hypo girl the year off or do the pair --mojave het hypo x hypo

Now in no way do I want to be a butt-in-ski and I presume you posted the pairing to generate conversation and I'd hate to see you miss a chance a several Worlds Firsts. Just my 2 cents.

I appreciate your input! We put a lot of thought into it, and those 3 pairings you had been stuck on does have sound logic behind it.

Hypo pastel cinnamon x hypo: we prematurely sold our breeder hypo cinnamon, the father to this male, and I would rather have just the hypo cinny for a breeder male, so we are doing this pairing in hopes of having a holdback hypo cinnamon that was just as nice as dad.

Mojave het hypo x hypo mojave: three words.... hypo super mojave!!!!

Pastel super vanilla x hypo mojave pinstripe: we chose this pairing because I enjoy vanilla pins, vanilla mojaves, and vanilla jigsaws. I don't I tent to hold back anything with pastel, even though this male is the nicest pastel super vanilla I've seen. I'm extremely critical of pastels and pastel combos, so I minimize the number of pastel animals in my collection when possible. I don't like animals that get worse with age!

I don't care about producing world's firsts. I want to produce animals that excite me :)

I love hearing what other people would do with the same animals though! Always great to get a different perspective on things.

So I looked on WOBP and one of the two snakes is great. But Hypo Super Mojave is mostly a BEL, albeit a good looking one (at least, one of the two animals pictured was), what is it about that combo you like, or like so much? I wouldn't think it would be the genetics because Het Hypo Mojave is all it will pass to an offspring.

As you said, you like the input to see what others would do with the same snakes - I like to see what combos interest people and why. You limit pastel because of poor ageing (and I agree to a point) but I have a huge amount of pastel, hoping to have something pop-out (it seems (in my reading/take/view/research) that new genes found in existing collections are often hiding in an ugly pastel). I also have a Pastel Fire who keeps getting better and better with age (three ish). And for me that is a intellectually stimulating combo - which gene wins, the fire or the pastel?

I also like Super Pastels, by themselves or combos. I guess I'd echo what I read here a couple of years ago "the dirtier the better". I notice that I'm on both sides of that fence - I like clean high contrast snakes and I like some dark dirty morphs too.

I laughed at this (in a good way). What??? How can you not want a World's First, you'd be famous!?! Well, ok, maybe not. Good on 'ya for breeding what you like and what you find cool. I love how strong your collection is for hypo, and the other recessive elements in your collection. Genetically you've got a great collection compared to mine.

Re: Plans for 2016 Season at MK Morphs
I want the hypo super mojave because we want hypo on EVERYTHING. Having the hypo super mojave, hopefully a male, would be a better male breeder for my projects than my Mohave het hypo.

I do have a good amount of pastel in my collection, but as far as future hold backs are concerned, I don't forsee myself holding back many, if any, pastel combos even though my pastel combo animals are some of the best I have seen.

I'm all about clean animals, so I try to improve upon that in my collection with selective breeding.

I think for many people the idea of a world's first is very exciting. However, unless it is a project I'm super passionate about, I'm not going to "waste" a female that season for a clutch that won't put me closer to my goals!

We have a handful of long term projects that we are working toward, other than that we just take it year by year. We make a list of who will be ready to breed, by our standards, and just brainstorm what we think would be the best pairings for our long term goals! It takes the pressure off that way, and keeps it fun and about the animals.

Update! We decided to pair the black pastel yellowbelly to the hypo mojave pinstripe instead. The potential offspring from that pairing is much more up our alley!

Nice choice! Black pastel hypo pinstripe, anyone?:bow::bow:

Some very exciting pairings planned. Good luck with the upcoming season!
