So now what do I do?

So now what do I do?
I have an escapee of sorts. The eldest kid had Tucker out today. She put him back, put the top on, and locked it with pins. This was witnessed by both me and my wife. Snake is gone. The only place he could possibly be is inside the large tree in the viv. Talking about the tree on the left shown in the picture.

There is an opening in the bottom that he could have gotten into, and then up the inside of the tree to the hollow cavity in the middle. It's circled in red below.

So now what? Hope he has enough space and common snake sense to turn around and get out? I've got a rat warming under the light hoping the scent will draw him out. Beyond that, any suggestions?

At this point all you can do is wait. However when he comes out, you have two options. First get rid of the tree or plug the holes in the tree with something.

At the very least I'm shoving a big wad of aluminum foil up there to block it....when he comes out.

Aquarium décor is usually inappropriate for a snake enclosure, and for precisely the reason you just discovered. You may end up destroying the tree to get your snake out of it.

Yup he is most certainly in there. Honestly you should probably find a different hide for him. I have that same log for my fish. There are a lot of crevices inside that make it a nightmare to clean.

It's actually not aquarium decor. It was designed and sold as fit for reptiles. Sure, designed poorly but who knew? I know there are other keepers in these forums and use the same trees, both small and large. I'll fix it when he comes out again. He has once so far, and gone back before I could get to him. It's the hide he spends most of his time in so I'm not apt to take it away. I'll just make sure he uses it as it's intended.

I'd turn the lamp off from above the tree and put the lamp on the opposite side of the cage... when the tree gets too cool in temperature, he'll want to try to find a way out.
