How often could I handle my snake.
I'm very new to owning a BP and the info you guys provide here is a great help. That being said my question is how often could I handle my snake. He is 7 months old feeding once a week with no problem. I always give him 2 days after a feed before handling him and I leave him alone during his shed except for daily maintenance. I've owned plenty of lizards (Beardies, Iguana's ETC...)and in my experience they have to be handle to keep them calm otherwise they could get a little nasty. I really only handle Ziggy my BP during the weekends. Monday through Friday I just clean the tank and give fresh water. Tuesday is his feeding day. When I do handle him on the weekends its usually no longer than 20 minutes on Saturday and Sunday. From what I've read on the forum is they don't need to be handled often but if I handle him only during the weekends will he get nasty from not handling him alot. I know I am not over handling him but is there such a thing as under handling him?
I must say I wish I had gotten into Pythons long ago I find this to be a very fulfilling experience.
Re: How often could I handle my snake.
I don't handle any of my snakes very often and none of them are cage defensive or nippy. I handle them once or twice a week for about 5-10 minutes then return them to their enclosures. I think I enjoy watching them more than handling them. :)
Re: How often could I handle my snake.
Thanks for the info. I had an iguana years ago that if he wasn't handled on a regular basis was quite defensive. This is what I'm trying to avoid with Ziggy.
My daughter who is 6 years old and myself love this animal. My wife tolerates me having him. I love that my daughter is into this hobby with me. This pet was chosen by my daughter.
The choices were Hamster, Parakeet or Ball python. I'm surprised she picked the snake but I'm glad to see a young child thinking outside the box and picking a not so typical pet. As for keeping reptiles for years its nice to see the open mindedness of a child to except a pet like this.
