My only clutch this year - baby pieds and something kind of sad
So . . . This was actually a bit of a test-breeding. Cloe is a Possible Het Albino, and, this last season I put her back to one of her Pied sons. Ended up with 7 nice-sized eggs -- average weight, 115 grams -- one of which was infertile. The infertile egg was quite strongly adhered to three others.

Pipping started Aug 1st, and the first five babies out are in good shape. Number . . . well . . . not so much. The egg rapidly lost moisture toward the end of incubation. I really don't like to cut unless something doesn't feel right, and it didn't. I cut on him on Day 63, four days after the first baby pipped. The inside of the egg was tacky, with dry (yes, dry!) blood vessels still adhered to the inside of the shell. Added incubator-temperature water, the little guy came out two days later. He has a bit of the premie headshape and his lower jaw is just short enough that it doesn't quite fit with the upper. But he acts normally and flicks his tongue. His sibs are already going into shed. So . . . We'll see. I'll know in a few weeks, when he does or doesn't eat.

Congrats Alicia on the clutch! Sorry about #6 though. That was good instincts you had to go in and cut to save the little guy! I don't think I would've gone in like that. Good call. You taught a lot of us how cutting in special circumstances can be lifesaving. Hoping for a positive outlook and result going forward. Thank you.:gj:

That is a beautiful mix of little pied worms! Good instincts on the 6th egg, I'm sorry the 7th went bad - I hope your tiny baby shapes up okay.

    Thanks again, everyone!

The babies have now all shed out -- including #6! The little guy shed out late Sunday. His head shape is still a little wonky, especially from the side, but he's acting very alert, moving to see what I was doing cleaning his tub and flicking his tongue like a normal baby. Still crossing my fingers. Later this week, I'll see if he'll take a hopper. And I'll also see if I can't take some pics the next time I have to clean tiny cages :)
