Sullen Serpent

Marble got out last week, and after a solid seven days of hunting for her, I found her curled up in a locked drawer. I don't know how she got in there, but she squished herself up underneath my hacksaws and couldn't get out, so she couldn't reach the water I put out for her(in hopes I could lure her in). I don't have AC in the apartment, so it was 90+ degrees for the full week she was without water. Needless to say, she was very happy to see her water dish again.

She guzzled for a good 20 minutes or so before she came up for air and started pushing liquid out of her mouth. It looked a little mucous-y, but she wasn't breathing hard or wheezing or clicking, so I let it go after she expelled it and she went right back to her water. She spent the night either in the dish or curled around it, and didn't even look at her hides until I was getting up the next morning. I checked her out again, no mucous or anything.

Is there anything I should be on the lookout for with a previously dehydrated snake? I know too much water at once is bad for some critters, but I don't know about snakes. She doesn't look cut up from the saws, but there was some rust on her, which I cleaned off. She's made no attempts to flee from my hands or check her tank for escape routes, which is a new thing for her. Maybe she got all the adventure out of her system?

She was probably curled up in her water bowl to maintain her body temperature, keep in mind that if you have no ac, the inside of the the tank will be similar to the outside of it. Respiratory infections are caused by stress, and it is not surprising that a respiratory infection occurred. These infections are deadly, and it's probably a good idea to take her to the vet.

When did a respiratory infection come in???? Keep a close eye on him and make sure you don't see anything out of the ordinary. Offer a slightly smaller meal on the next feeding. But all should be good. Just monitor him

She got a somewhat smaller rat today. It took a bit longer to draw her out and a few extra seconds for her to find it(her eyes are bad even on the best of days), but she took it like she usually does. I'm trying to keep her as unstressed as I can until she's digested the rat, then I'll look her over again. If she's clicking and dripping then, I'll call the vet.
